Why Gabrielle Lea Wrote "Gloria"
"While I know many lgbt+ artists, and songs by lgbt artists, I was having a difficult time finding one that suited me sonically, but also spoke about my experience and feelings as a queer person. I wrote "Gloria" specifically for this project, as I wanted something that sounded like me, both in its sound as well as in its voice."Gloria" in the literal - is a song about being in love with a dancer, about admiring her and wanting something more than "just for a song" Being drawn to her, knowing that it will never be more than what it is, and still wanting her despite that. I meshed this idea with a lot of religious language, I grew up in a Catholic household, and the imagery, the language, and most notably - the guilt, are hugely impactful on me in general, but especially when facing my own sexuality. I felt the idea of loving from afar, or loving despite it being from afar, coupled with the religious undertones, really created an image, a feeling, that mirrored a lot of what I have experienced and felt.
