Meet Sean Tobin: The MIC's December Musician of the Month

Meet Sean Tobin

sean tobin

Having recently relocated to Nashville, Tennessee, to pursue his songwriting career, Sean Tobin originally comes from the bustling music scene of Asbury Park, New Jersey. Inspired by folk singers and high-energy rockers, Tobin has taken his singer-songwriter skills from dive bars, clubs, and basements to busking the streets of Galway, Ireland. He's graced stages at prestigious festivals such as SXSW, Americanafest, North2Shore, and Frank Turner’s Lost Evenings, sharing the spotlight with acclaimed artists like Jason Isbell and Rhett Miller.

Last month, Sean Tobin unveiled his fourth studio album, "Hands Like Mine," firmly maintaining his independence by personally writing and producing the album. Collaborating with longtime band members David Patiño, Jack Breslin, and Jake Garbe, as well as guitarist Evan Dibbs, Tobin continues to forge his own path in the music industry.

This December, The MIC is celebrating Sean Tobin, as our MIC Musician of the Month!

Genre: Americana

Artist Name: Sean Tobin Band: Sean Tobin and the Boardwalk Fire

Fun Facts: "I've been to 41 of the 50 states; I can recite most of the presidents in order while counting how many terms they've had; I'm a pretty decent cook"

What Makes Sean Tobin Stand Out?

"I don't take things as seriously as some other artists I've met. When I perform, I feel as if the venue is a party and I'm the host. If I screw up, I move on. If a take isn't perfect in the studio, I shrug it off. Basically, in an age of redo's and perfection, I strive for authenticity."

What is Sean Tobin most known for?

"I'd say I'm known mostly for my lyrics. If it hadn't been for the guitar, I might've been a poet."

What has Sean Tobin been working on?

My most recent album, Hands Like Mine. Hands Like Mine is a collection of stories, some about me, some not. It's the most selfless album I've made to date.

Do you have any advice for other aspiring independent musicians?:

"Find friends who believe in you more than you believe in yourself. If you do that, you'll never fail."
