Meet Your Best Nightmare

Erin Porter, also known as Your Best Nightmare, brings a unique twist to the punk genre, performing both as a solo act and with a full band. Her sound, often described as "bubblegum punk," merges infectious melodies with sharp, edgy lyrics, creating a contrast that’s as fun as it is fierce. Trained at the John J. Cali School of Music, Erin’s multi-instrumental talents and classically honed soprano vocals lend an unexpected depth to her genre-blurring style. Whether performing solo or with her band, Your Best Nightmare captures the audience with a dynamic mix of sass, haunting beauty, and unapologetic punk energy. In March, YBN released their anticipated debut album, Presents: A Simple Solution for Toxic Masculinity, and earlier this summer, Your Best Nightmare traveled to London for her first overseas tour! On September 10th, she released her latest live album from the tour recorded at Tooting Tram, It's Alive!! In London!!. This September, The MIC Mag is celebrating Your Best Nightmare as our Musician of the Month!

What Makes Your Best Nightmare Stand Out?
"I think as a solo musician I stand out as being unapologetic. As a band, I think what makes us stand out is that each artist collaborating gets to have their own creative freedom with what they add to the track. You can hear each artist's own style in their part of the track (Especially the new stuff)."
What is Your Best Nightmare most known for?
"The ukulele, and the attitude."
What has Your Best Nightmare been working on?
"It's Alive!! In London!!. The album was recorded live during my first solo UK tour as Your Best Nightmare and was honestly not planned as a release. I didn't know the set was recorded until the show ended! The album captures Your Best Nightmare as I initially began the project, with just me and a ukulele. It also captures some of the, at times, weird things I'll say on stage between songs. It captures the essence of a solo YBN show, and delivers it right to you wherever you are."

Do you have any advice for other aspiring independent musicians?:
"Be boldly independent, but don't be afraid to lean on the people that wholeheartedly support what you're doing once in a while. I manage all of the business of Your Best Nightmare independently, but the friends I have in the group and the friends we've made through recording and performing are what keep me sane. They pick up what I put down musically, and they keep me laughing. Being an independent musician doesn't mean you have to be alone, whether you're a solo performer or a band. Find the people that you truly vibe with, and keep them close."
