On The MIC with Jared Knapik: "Girls Just Want to Have Fun" Cyndi Lauper Cover

This week Jared Knapik gets On The MIC to share his favorite song. It's a unique performance and recording of the classic, upbeat, and powerful anthem, "Girls Just Want to Have Fun" by Cyndi Lauper!

Why Jared Knapik Rocks:

  • inspired by punk bands and '50s rock and roll

  • pulls inspiration from some of his favorite bands, Dashboard Confessional and The Gaslight Anthem

  • released three full-length albums

  • describes his sound as, "bashing style of guitar playing paired with personal lyrics breeds a performance that - while not in volume - in spirit, rivals that of a full band"

Why Jared Knapik chose "Girls Just Want to Have Fun"

"This has been my favorite song for as long as I can remember. Great melody, simple chords — what more could you want? When stripped down to its bones, I really don’t think this song is too dissimilar to those by any of my favorite songwriters: Springsteen, Chris Carrabba (Dashboard Confessional), Brian Fallon (The Gaslight Anthem). I stopped covering this song for a stint when it seemed like it was “The thing” to do, to cover somewhat unconventional, but very well-known, songs in the scene of music from which I come. I wish I’d never stopped. All hail Cyndi Lauper!" - Jared Knapik
