IB: Hi Bride Riot, I am so excited to interview you today!
BR: Thank you for having us and the opportunity!
1. IB: I notice that you are an all-female band. What was your reasoning for this, if there was any?
BR: We created Bride Riot as an all-woman band to make a point. Punk and metal scenes have been dominated by men for far too long, and it was time for women to take up space and be heard. It wasn't just about being a woman in a band—it was about showing women can be raw, loud, and unapologetically themselves in these genres. We wanted to encourage other women to pick up instruments, start bands, and not have to be boxed in. Being an all-woman band is our declaration of, 'We're here, and we're entitled to be.' It's empowerment, visibility, and breaking the barriers.
2. IB: I watched your music video for "Mob of the Dead" and really enjoyed it. What was it like working on the music video? And did you run into any difficulties along the way?
BR: Thanks so much! Working on "Mob of the Dead" was so much fun. We shot the entire video at The Meatlocker in Montclair, this kind of grimy, DIY punk venue that's been around for decades. It has that perfect underground vibe with walls covered in stickers and graffiti. It is just totally our scene. We did everything on our own. Right from directing to acting, we did everything hands-on. We even had volunteers act as the zombies, and that just made it like a community project. The team was great, and no issues arose at all. It was all smooth sailing and wonderful fun. If we learned one thing, it's that the DIY approach is very rewarding. Before you even consider outsourcing, we highly suggest trying it out for yourself first. It tied us together as a band and made a rough, real energy in the video that we truly love.
3. IB: How do you typically record your music? Is it self-recorded and produced, or do you get it professionally recorded and produced?
BR: For our recordings, we worked with some great professionals. We recorded at Retromedia Sound Studios in Red Bank, NJ, with Doug Gallo, and at Carriage City in Garwood, NJ, with EJ and Liz. Both experiences were fantastic. The studios are great, and the people we worked with were so relaxed and friendly. We're DIY all the way, but we just so happened to have access to these great studios and people. It was only natural that we would collaborate with them. And it was a blast getting to work with people who shared our same energy and vibe.
4. IB: How do you typically start writing your songs? And do you all contribute to the songwriting process?
BR: We usually begin songwriting when Amanda or Alexsa comes up with a guitar riff or a drum beat. From there, we do the song piece by piece, verse by verse, and attempt to collaborate as much as possible so that it becomes something that everybody is comfortable with. Once we have the groundwork established, we add the icing on the cake—like vocals and bass—to complete the song. It seems like a collaborative effort in every sense, and each person adds their own personal flair. We enjoy watching each song grow through our individual contributions, embodying the collective energy and vision we share.
BR: The lyrics to "Mob of the Dead" were written about The Meatlocker in Montclair, NJ. We're always blown away by the raw energy from the bands and crowd every time we play there. The venue where everyone comes to cut loose, be free, and get that wild, electric vibe. It's being present in the moment, surrounded by people who are all present for one purpose: to feel something genuine and powerful.
IB: What is one song that you wish Bride Riot wrote?
BR: We'd have to mention "Hail to the King" by Avenged Sevenfold. It's this huge, authoritative anthem with a groove that just punches so hard. The way it takes the best of classic metal influences and combines them with contemporary energy is something we thoroughly respect. BUT we would obviously change the title to "Hail to the Queen."
IB: What will we see in the future from Bride Riot?
BR: Expect more music, more shows, and more of us being real. We're always creating, connecting, and pushing ourselves.
IB: Thank you so much for your time, it was great talking to you!
BR: Thanks so much for chatting with us! It was awesome connecting and sharing our story.
