Meet Wave Break:

Wave Break has carved out a fierce and magnetic presence in the Jersey Shore scene, fusing raw emotion with anthemic alt-rock energy. Known for their relentless drive and unapologetic honesty, the band has lit up stages from The Stone Pony to House of Independents, sharing bills with scene staples like Fred Mascherino and Youth Fountain. Their latest era, marked by the 2024 EP Ignite//Decay and follow-up singles “Easier Said” and “Spinning Out,” strikes a striking balance between catchy pop sensibilities and the grit of modern rock; a sound that’s both cathartic and empowering, born from struggle but built on resilience.
This month, The MIC Mag is celebrating Wave Break as our Musicians of the Month!
Genre: Alternative Rock/Emo/Pop Punk
Band: Kelly Barber - Lead Vocals
Tom Lakiszak - Bass
Will McCorry - Guitar Josh Ganesh - Guitar, Vocals
Fun Facts:
We're a band of full-fledged geeks! All of us like at least a few of these things; Star Wars, Super Mario, Sonic, Pokemon, Dragon Ball, DND/magic, Ren Faire, Medieval Times, Dark Fantasy, etc.
Everyone in the band has at least one dog!
Kelly once performed on the Rachael Ray Show with her high school's Glee Club in her senior year!
What makes Wave Break stand out?
"I think what makes us stand out is our ability to combine catchy pop melodies with riffy rock instrumentation, which makes songs that both rock hard and will get stuck in your head. Also, the fact that we now have the ability to do dual vocals with screams ever since Josh joined the band, I think, also makes us different. We did that for the first time on our new single "Spinning Out."

What is Wave Break most known for?
"We hope to be known for our versatility and ability to do songs that lean more post-hardcore just as well as songs that lean pop rock or pop punk. We don't want to pigeonhole ourselves by sticking to just one sound. We want to keep everyone guessing."
What has Wave Break been working on?
Latest Single, "Spinning Out"
"Spinning Out is a song about how it feels to spiral from anxiety, and end up sabotaging yourself by engaging in self-destructive behaviors as a result. It explores themes like self-isolation and ruining your personal relationships due to feeling overwhelmed with everything. It's a very personal song about how my own anxiety has affected me." - Kelly

"Being a musician is a lot of fun! I love having a creative outlet to write and express myself outside of my day job. Making art is what I feel gives my life meaning, so I will continue to do it for as long as I can." - Kelly, Wave Break
Do you have any advice for other aspiring independent musicians?:
"Absolutely never give up. Pursuing a career in music is an incredibly difficult thing to do. You will get a ton of 'no's and not a lot of 'yes's. The ones who prevail are the ones who stick with it, learn from experience, and come back stronger. It's a marathon, not a race!"
