You're Not Broken, You're Just "Bent": Check out Rhonette Smith's New Single

Rhonette Smith is a local New Jersey pop, rock, and metal artist who “fearlessly delves into the raw and often unspoken territories of depression, anxiety, shame, guilt, and fear within her deeply resonant music.” She grew her love for poetry and songwriting during her teenage years, which laid the foundation for her musical journey filled with her innermost thoughts. In 2013, Rhonette established the band Centennials, which she led for seven years. In 2019, she yearned to find a more personalized sound, thus embarking on her solo musical career with the release of her first album, "Phantasmic." She took a creative break for a while and returned in 2024, with a new sound to her; it was darker and heavier, fused with metal undertones. With this new sound, she released "Exhale," a track that tackled the physical sensations of anxiety and the subsequent release. Her newest release, "Bent," tackles the feeling of brokenness, loneliness, and fear, but she knows that she will survive.

In the words of Rhonette Smith: "With my old music, I always felt like there was something missing, and it was too clean. I’ve been listening to screamo and metalcore music for most of my life, and this is the first time I’ve really felt like I’ve been able to incorporate those styles into my own music. I'm honestly floored that Steve was able to make my song sound as great as it is. It’s given me more confidence that I can pursue this style of music, and I’m so excited for what’s next."

LONG STORY SHORT:  Starting with a killer guitar riff and drum beat, “Bent” draws you in instantly. Rhonette then hits you with her beautifully raw vocals that captivate you. “Bent” is a killer hard rock song about someone who puts a wall around themselves because they feel broken, bent, and fragile on their own. They know that the only way to overcome these feelings is to try and survive, even if it’s hard. If you ever feel broken, this song will drag you out from the depths of the ocean, because you are not broken, you're just bent.
